The Importance of Brushing Your Teeth

Teeth are a very important part of our bodies. Without teeth we would not be able to chew our food properly. Kids need to learn at a young age the proper way to care for their teeth, and know what foods could be harmful to their teeth health.

Our children where patiently waiting for the show to being. Each child was just hoping that they would get picked to be a helper.

We had five friends that help start the show! Each child was able to hold a letter. Once all the children were lined up they spelled out the word TEETH!

Each child was given the opportunity to brush Sam's teeth. The dentist walked each child through the proper way of brushing and flossing your teeth.

One experiment that the children were able to do, was healthy foods vs. junk food.
The children would stick their finger into the junk food and feel how sticky it was and then they would touch the healthy food. The difference each child learn. was healthy food is better for your teeth and your body, and it does not make your teeth feel dirty.

The last experiment the children did was with three types of eggs into three different jar. Each of the jars had a different type of liquid.  As the children touched each egg they found out that the egg was getting softer. The dentist told them this is what happens when you drink soda and other fizzy drinks. When you drink water it does not effect your teeth. The children loved the time that the dentist spent with them, and one child told her that he wanted her to be his dentist now!

BUILD A HEALTHY MEAL FOR YOUR FAMILY

Sometimes it can be hard to fix a healthy meal for your family. Often it is faster to grab fast food or do a microwave dinner.
When we have time to fix something healthy, we may wonder what
should go on the plate.
According to, Untied States Department of Agriculture Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion there are 10 ways to build a healthy meal.

1. Make half your plate veggies and fruits.
Vegetables and fruits are full of nutrients and may help to promote good health. Choose red, orange, and dark-green vegetables such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and broccoli.
2. Add lean protein
Choose protein foods, such as lean beef and pork, or chicken, turkey, beans,, or tofu. twice a week, make seafood the protein on your plate.
3. Include whole grains
Aim to make at least half your grains whole grains. Look for the words "100% whole grain" or "100% whole wheat" on the food label. Whole grains provide more nutrients, like fiber, than refined grains.
4. Don't forget the dairy
Pair your meal with a cup of fat-free or low-fat milk. They provide the same amount of calcium and other essential nutrients as whole milk, but less fat and calories. Don't drink milk? Try soymilk (soy beverage) as your beverage or include fat-free or low-fat yogurt in your meal.
5. Avoid extra fat
Using heavy gravies or sauces will add fat and calories to otherwise healthy choices. For example, steamed broccoli is great, but avoid topping it with cheese sauce.  Try other options, like a sprinkling of low-fat Parmesan cheese or a squeeze of lemon.
6.Take your time
Savor your food. Eat slowly, enjoy the taste and textures, and pay attention to how you feel. Be mindful. Eating very quickly may cause you to eat too much.
7. Use a smaller plate at meals to help with portion control. That way you can finish your entire plate and feel satisfied without overeating.
8. Take control of your food
Eat at home more often so you know exactly what you are eating. If you eat out, check and compare the nutrition information. Choose healthier options such as baked instead of fried.
9. Try new foods
Keep it interesting by picking out new foods you've never tried before, like mango, lentils, or kale. You may find a new favorite! Trade fun and tasty recipes with friends or find them online.
10. Satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way
Indulge in a naturally sweet dessert dish---Fruit! Serve a fresh fruit cocktail or a fruit parfait made with yogurt. For a hot dessert, bake apples and top with cinnamon.

A Peak Inside The Life Of Our Toddler Class!

A normal day inside our Toddler class, ranges from free play to reading books! Mrs. Jessica and Mrs. Irma love getting to sing, read and do art projects with their class. All of the children enjoy coming to school to see their teachers and also see what the new day brings!

Mrs. Jessica and a friend are enjoying doing some art and completing her masterpiece!

While a few friends are doing art, Mrs. Irma and a couple of other friends were enjoying reading a ABC book!

One of the toys that our friends in the Toddler classroom enjoy  are the pegs and the peg boards. This friend has three pegs in the board and getting ready to put in a  fourth!

Another child enjoys playing with the lacing beads. She stopped long enough for this photo opportunity!

Our friend that was working hard with the peg board took time to show another friend how to get the pegs into the small holes. So sweet!
